This natural corundum-sapphire originates from the Hopedale region of Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this striking round-oval, high-domed granular cabochon features corundum captured within its natural host rock. Displaying vivid natural hues ranging from violet to deep purple and magenta, the gemstone is scattered with fine specks of pyrite, giving it the beautiful appearance of a miniature galaxy. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry and an alluring inner glow.
