This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this elegant freeform long drop-shaped granular cabochon displays a beautiful blend of purplish-red and sapphire tones. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry. Please note that this piece features a small area of plucking along the edge that would be easily concealed by a bezel setting, and has been discounted accordingly.
