This small high-dome corundum-sapphire cabochon exhibits richer shades of red than most material from this occurrence. There is very subtle light blue to pink hexagonal zoning in some viewing angles occuring as mostly blue and pink undertones. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light, highlighting it's chromium-rich, ruby leaning geochemistry. The lapidary rough used to make this stone, originates from the Hopedale region of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and was found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders.
The stone has been shaped into a freeform high-dome oval cabochon measuring 9.5 x 8.5 x 6.0 mm, with a total weight of 5.15 carats.
