This small high-dome corundum-sapphire cabochon is a deep reddish-plum to magenta colour which changes slightly depending on the lighting conditions. There is slight asterism and subtle light blue to pink hexagonal zoning in most viewing angles, when shifted quickly the zoning appears as a flash of light within the stone. The area which shows the zoning sweeps across the stone as the stone is shifted. The lapidary rough originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and was found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders.
The stone has been shaped into a freeform high-dome oval cabochon measuring 9.00 x 7.65 x 5.50 mm, with a total weight of 4.55 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
