This beautiful oval, rich green, semi-transparent serpentine cabochon is cut from high-grade rough sourced from the Hopedale region of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The material was originally found by local prospector Edmund Saunders and is commonly used by locals in the area for carving. The stone is dark green to black in indoor light, under outdoor light it reveals is semi transparent nature, brightens in colour and reviels and internal viel of inclusions. The small black specks in this stone are weakly magnetic (likely magnetite). The cabochon weighs 26.15 CT and measures 25.80 x 16.85 x 7.55 mm. The hardness of this cabochon is around 5 to 5.5, making it harder than most serpentine and more suitable for jewellery use.
