Amethyst Faceting Rough, 25 CT, from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Amethyst Faceting Rough, 25 CT, from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
This 25-carat, saturated amethyst faceting rough was hand-dug by local prospector Josh March at the La Manche Mine in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It has been processed down to feature a section with unique colour zoning, including deeply saturated bands along the crystal point ridges and soft pink-to-blue undertones, making it suitable faceting rough. The surface sections of the crystal maintained in this rough stone contain small spheroidal to needle-like inclusions which are goethite, limonite, and hematite. With careful planning, these inclusions could be either included in a gemstone design or removed, resulting in a smaller yield.
A distinctive piece of Canadian gemstone material for the lapidary who enjoys transforming rough into a finished, faceted gem, or the collector who values a stone with local provenance.
