This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this large freeform pear-shaped granular cabochon displays beautiful, rich purple tones. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry.
