This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this elegant long rectangle features a unique trapezoid cross-section. The corundum is hosted in icy blue to white feldspar and brownish-black biotite, creating a striking contrast with the purplish-red sapphire. Under ultraviolet light, the corundum sections of the stone reveal a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich, ruby-leaning geochemistry.
