This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale region of Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this very small round cabochon features granular corundum captured within its natural host rock, including natural inclusions. The colours displayed range from deep purple-pink to magenta tones shifting depending on lighting conditions. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich, ruby leaning geochemistry. A fully Canadian-sourced and shaped gemstone, this piece is well-suited for custom jewelry designers, collectors, or anyone seeking a unique, locality-specific specimen.
