This small corundum-sapphire cabochon is a deep rich reddish-plum to magenta colour which changes slightly depending on the lighting conditions. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light, highlighting it's chromium-rich ruby leaning geochemistry. The lapidary rough used to cut this stone originates from the Hopedale region of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and was found by local prospector Edmund Saunders.
The stone has been shaped into a freeform trillion shaped cabochon measuring approximately 8.75 x 3.90 mm, with a total weight of 3.45 carats.
