This beautiful corundum-sapphire specimen originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and was hand-dug by local prospector Edmund Saunders. The specimen consists of granular corundum-sapphire displaying rich, natural hues ranging from deep red to vibrant magenta and purple hosted in a dark biotite and feldspar rich matrix. On one side, the specimen is nearly pure corundum.
Under ultraviolet light, the specimen glows with a vivid fluorescence, highlighting its corundum zones, chromium-rich geochemistry and enhancing its visual allure.
