Sapphire Specimen, 57 x 40 x 20 mm, from British Columbia, Canada
This beautiful corundum-sapphire specimen was collected from the Revelstoke region of British Columbia. This material comes from a high-alpine occurrence originally discovered by the late Canadian prospector Herb Hyder, a great friend and inspiration to me. Rock Rush now owns the claim provided this specimen.
This raw mineral specimen features a large purple-plum sapphire crystal hosted in a dark, radiating amphibole matrix. This rough crystal specimen looks great from all angles and features a well-defined crystalline structure. The main sapphire crystal in this specimen is approximately 16 mm round. Its large size makes the specimen well-balanced for a display cabinet. Under ultraviolet light, the sapphire sections of this specimen glow with vivid fluorescence, highlighting the sapphire's chromium-rich, ruby-leaning geochemistry.
