Parti Sapphire Specimen, 9.30 x 5.90 x 4.45 mm, from British Columbia, Canada
This raw corundum specimen features a pair of striking parti sapphire crystal, one big and one small, with distinct color zoning, showcasing shades of purple, red, magenta, and soft pink, depending on the lighting conditions, which I tried to show in the attached photos. The stones also contain patches of deep dark navy blue and sit on a small bit of light green chrysotile matrix. Collected from a high-alpine occurrence in the Revelstoke region of British Columbia by the late prospector Herb Hyder, this unique piece highlights exceptional Canadian gem geochemistry.
The main rough crystal in this specimen displays a well-defined hexagonal habit and a flashy flat face. Under ultraviolet light, it glows a vivid soft pink, reflecting its chromium-bearing composition. These sapphire crystals have been lightly tumbled to remove loose matrix material and could be set raw into jewelry with a careful hand.
