This natural corundum (var. ruby) originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this freeform high-dome oval cabochon displays deep magenta-plum tones that shift slightly depending on lighting conditions. The gemstone exhibits slight asterism and weak star formation from certain viewing angles. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry. Please note that this piece features a small natural fracture visible at specific angles and has been discounted accordingly.
